DIRECT Senegal Cameroon follow the match

Senegal and Cameroon face each other this Friday evening in one of the shocks of this first round of CAN 2023. Follow this meeting live on our site.

18:08 – New corner for Senegal

The Senegalese Lions obtain a new corner after a breakthrough from Ismaïla Sarr on the right side, who saw his cross deflected by Wooh. But it’s very poorly shot and that doesn’t worry André Onana.

18:05 – Senegal gets a first corner

Senegal in turn obtains a first corner. Abdou Diallo cuts the trajectory at the near post but fails to get his header on target.

18:04 – Corner for Cameroon

The Senegalese lose a new ball in their last 30 meters and Nkoudou takes the opportunity to obtain a first corner in this match. Senegal’s defense once again averts the danger.

18:02 – Free kick wasted by Cameroon

Ngamaleu gets a good free kick after a foul by Jakobs along the touchline, at box level. Nkoudou takes charge of hitting him but the Lions defense intervenes well and wards off the danger.

18:00 – Let’s go between Senegal and Cameroon!

The kick-off of this match between Senegal and Cameroon has just been given to Yamoussoukro! It is the Senegalese who are involved in this first period.

17:55 – Both teams enter the field

The Senegalese and Cameroonians enter the lawn of the Charles-Konan-Banny stadium in Yamoussoukro. The kick-off will be given just after the anthems of the two countries, starting with that of Senegal.

17:50 – Cameroon can still hope

Even in the event of a poor performance this evening against Senegal, the Indomitable Lions will not yet be eliminated despite two games without a win because the four best third-placed teams can advance to the round of 16 of this CAN 2023 version. Everything would then be decided during of the last day of the group stage against Gambia, next Tuesday.

17:44 – The history between Senegal and Cameroon

Out of 16 matches played in all competitions, Senegal and Cameroon have each won five victories each, with six draws (excluding penalties). But in recent confrontations, the Senegalese seem to have taken the advantage. They won the last friendly match played between the two countries in Lens, in November 2023 (1-0). Better, the Lions have not conceded any goals against the Cameroonians in the last five matches. We have to go back to February 9, 2005 to find the trace of a goal and a victory for Cameroon (1-0). Even if the Indomitable Lions had eliminated Senegal during the quarter-finals of CAN 2017 (0-0, 5 tabs to 4) before lifting the trophy at the end of the competition.

17:38 – Cameroon-Song: “We have always been above Senegal”

With his back against the wall before this match against Senegal, Cameroon coach Rigobert Song does not seem worried about facing the Senegalese, allowing himself to recall Cameroon’s record at a press conference on Thursday: “If we look back at the statistics and the history, I think that, unless I don’t have a good memory, today, how many times did we play against Senegal? And what happened? I think we always been over Senegal. Now, the years have changed and it’s something else today. And it’s a very beautiful generation. That, we must recognize. It’s a very beautiful generation, today , with the team Aliou has had for a very long time. Besides, I have a lot of esteem, a lot of respect for the good work he does. But we still remain the Indomitable Lions with more stars than this team in Africa and I think we still have the impression of always being above everything. And tomorrow that will be confirmed.”

17:32 – Senegal-Cissé: “Cameroon, you are the continent”

Present Thursday at a press conference on the eve of the match between these two important nations of African football, the coach of Senegal Aliou Cissé recalled all the respect he has for Cameroon, a country five times winner of the CAN, without depriving himself to calm down a little: “Cameroon remains Cameroon. It is a competitive beast. We know, we must never bury the Cameroonians because they are capable of getting back up, all the time. Over time, we saw that they were capable of taking on challenges. You know, we, in Senegal, are a people who do not speak much. A very humble people. So, as I say, Cameroon, you are the continent . We know you. We have a lot of respect for Cameroon. Now, as I said, the generations follow each other and are not alike.”

17:24 – Cameroon: Onana back in goal

Absent during the first meeting after being retained by his club Manchester United, Andre Onana finds his place in the Cameroonian goal for this meeting against Senegal. On the other hand, Vincent Aboubakar is once again absent after having already missed the first match against Guinea (1-1). Cameroon’s starting lineup: Onana – Tchato, Castelletto, Wooh, Tolo – Neyou, Kemen, Zambo Anguissa – Ngamaleu, Magri, N’Koudou.

17:18 – Senegal: Aliou Cissé makes a change

For this shock, coach Aliou Cissé must deal with the absence of Niakhaté, affected against Gambia (3-0). Abdou Diallo moves back into central defense next to Koulibaly and Pape Sarr joins the midfield. For the rest, the team is unchanged. Senegal’s starting lineup: E. Mendy – K. Diatta, Koulibaly, A. Diallo, Jakobs – L. Camara, P. Sarr, I. Gueye – I. Sarr, H. Diallo, S. Mané.

17:12 – Cameroon no longer has a choice

The picture is less rosy on the Cameroon side. The Indomitable Lions stumbled against Guinea (1-1) for their entry into the running, despite having a numerical superiority throughout the second half. Defeat is therefore forbidden for the Cameroonians, otherwise the chances of qualifying for the final phase will be greatly reduced. Even if the possibility of qualifying by finishing third in the group could save the Cameroonian selection.

17:06 – Senegal wants to confirm

This match between Senegal and Cameroon is one of the shocks of this first round of CAN 2023, between two teams with different dynamics. Title holders, the Senegalese successfully entered the competition by easily beating Gambia (3-0), thanks in particular to a double from Lamine Camara, and could qualify if successful, without necessarily waiting for the result of the last match of this group C between Guinea and Gambia.
