08:15 – State of emergency lifted Tuesday morning
The state of emergency will be lifted on Tuesday morning in New Caledonia at 5 a.m. local time, 8 p.m. in Paris. It should allow “meetings of the different components of the FLNKS on the roadblocks of elected officials or officials able to call for their lifting” explains the presidency in a press release.
08:03 – 480 additional mobile gendarmes
While tensions are gradually fading in Nouméa and its surrounding area, the Elysée has just announced the dispatch to the island “in the coming hours” of “seven additional mobile force units, i.e. 480 mobile gendarmes ” to try to secure the last areas still in the hands of the rioters. In total, 3,500 personnel are present in the overseas territory.
