00:45 – Thank you and good night

Thank you all for following us for this Europa League final, won by Eintracht Frankfurt at the expense of Glasgow Rangers (1-1, 5 tab 4).

00:36 – Eintracht savors its title

After suffering so much and remaining undefeated all season in the competition, Eintracht Frankfurt can finally lift the Europa League.

00:30 – The German Communion

Eintracht Frankfurt players gathered in front of their supporters who came in number and unwavering support throughout this sweltering Europa League final in the heat of Seville. The hour of communion has come.

00:25 – And Frankfurt capsizes

We had to wait until the end of the night to witness the outcome of the Europa League. Eintracht Frankfurt and Glasgow Rangers will have stretched the evening to infinity, until this suffocating and indecisive penalty shootout, where the nerves are put to the test the most. Everything had to be played out there between two teams that no one was expecting there at the start of the season. And as a symbol, it is an experienced player who cracked. Coming into play especially for the exercise, former Arsenal player Aaron Ramsey failed. The Welshman shot full center but low to the ground. Trapp, the former Parisian, dragged his left leg and repelled the midfielder’s attempt. The door had just opened ajar and Borré, another symbol, took it upon himself to smash it with a clear knock in the skylight. The white turn, the white wall of Eintracht fans massed in the bays of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since late in the afternoon let their joy explode. After 42 years of waiting, the Eagles offered themselves their second C3 at the end of a season where they had bet everything on Europe, abandoning a Bundesliga finished in an anonymous 11th place. A successful bet by Glasner and his players. And yet, it could have been quite otherwise.

Indeed, if Eintracht had started their match perfectly, putting very strong pressure on their opponent from the kick-off, they could not make the difference, like Knauff stumbling over McGregor. The Rangers ended the first act better. It was even van Bronckhorst’s men who opened the scoring. Shortly before the hour mark, Aribo took advantage of an error of judgment from Sow to go for goal. A gluttony which he reveled in by slipping the ball under the legs of Trapp from an inside left assured. One would have thought that the Germans were going to take the hit but Kostic and Borré had decided otherwise. While a few moments earlier Kanada had failed to adjust his lob, the Croat wrapped a millimeter cross at the near post. The Colombian striker sprang in front of Bassey to cut the trajectory and equalize in an indescribable jubilation. What followed was bitter and everyone had the opportunity to make the decision. The biggest came to Rangers when, two minutes from the end of extra time, Kent, receiving a cross from Roofe, stumbled on Trapp from close range. This same Trapp who will be the gravedigger of Scottish dreams, in this anniversary season (the club is celebrating its 150th anniversary, editor’s note) in the penalty shootout and Borré the liberator of the Germans. Forty-two years later, the party promises to be beautiful in the Andalusian heat.

00:10 – The cup returns to Germany

Eintracht Frankfurt become the first German club to win the C3 since Schalke 04 in 1997. At the time, the competition was called the UEFA Cup and the Gelsenkirschen club also won on penalties against at Inter Milan (1-0, 0-1, 4 tab 1)

00:05 – 42 years later

Eintracht Frankfurt has won the second C3 in its history. The first had been conquered 42 years ago during a double confrontation against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-3, 1-0).
