26/10/22 – 23:50 – Thank you and good night
Thank you all for accompanying us to follow this defeat of Olympique de Marseille against Eintracht Frankfurt. See you next week for the 6th and final day of the Champions League group stage.
10/26/22 – 11:45 p.m. – A final at the Vélodrome
Although dejected, Olympique de Marseille still has its destiny in its hands in the Champions League. In a week, on the last day of the group stage, Guendouzi, Rongier, Pau Lopez and others will play their qualification for the round of 16 against Tottenham. To achieve this, they will have to beat the Londoners at all costs. No doubt that the Vélodrome will rumble loudly next Tuesday.
10/26/22 – 11:40 p.m. – Another hope for OM
With this defeat in Frankfurt, Olympique de Marseille has complicated the task but has not said goodbye to its hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League in a Group D tighter than ever. Indeed, in the other game of the evening, Tottenham and Sporting were neutralized, maintaining the four teams in two small points. Here is the ranking after the 5th day: 1. Tottenham – 8 pts / 2. Sporting Portugal – 7 pts / 3. Eintracht Frankfurt – 7 pts / 4. Olympique de Marseille – 6 pts.
10/26/22 – 11:35 p.m. – Marseille facing its limits, the summary of the match
The Champions League often holds up a magnifying mirror to each of the teams competing in the competition. A mirror whose reflections reveal and accentuate flaws. This evening, the reflection of Marseille was as cruel as it was implacable for an Olympique de Marseille faced with its shortcomings and its wanderings. The two victories against Sporting Portugal had outlined the beginning of something that vanished, swept away by a negative spiral in which the Marseille club is sinking irreparably with this setback in Frankfurt (1-2), The action of the second goal where only Götze and Kolo Muani were enough to ridicule 7 defenders bears the marks of what is wrong with the Tudor team. How could two players manage to outwit an entire team? Simply by taking advantage of a detrimental lack of aggressiveness on the European scene. The German world champion in 2014 was able to slip between the lines without forcing, directing towards the former Nantes player who recovered the ball after a poor clearance from Mbemba. He then relied on his partner who had come to help him in the pivot area, and punished OM with a flat foot which passed under Pau Lopez. As the stadium exploded, the Marseillais lowered their heads, stunned by their individual and collective errors.
Yet we had believed in an awakening five minutes earlier when Guendouzi appeared from 6 meters to catapult the center of Mbemba with a masterful volley in the goal of Trapp. The pass, the call, the finish with his balance and his power, everything had been perfect. A reaction of pride that made the French international scream with rage, a leader of revolt by his energy and his activity. The Marseillais raised their heads, their chests proud and high. A pride quickly swept away by Germans more precise in their sequences and more sharp. The difference was obvious from the start. Indeed, after only three minutes, N’Dicka spun in the back of a Clauss mounted too high. The defender put the ball in front of the box 25 yards out. Lindstrom faked and passed for Kamada, launched. The Japanese pierced the Marseille axis and deceived Pau Lopez from inside the right flush with the right post. Unstoppable. A clear, clinical action that caught visitors cold and fanned the flames in the aisles of the Frankfurt stadium. The chants never subsided, except for the 5 minutes following the Marseille equalizer.
Apart from Lenz’s action following Balerdi’s wandering at the entrance to his area, OM had nothing more to fear from the Germans curled up and satisfied with the result. The latter therefore abandoned the initiative, leaving it to the Marseilles to attack. Harit and Sanchez had the chances to allow theirs to pick up but each time Trapp intervened. Exhausted, Rongier and his partners sank little by little, unable to take back the German block, reinforced by Rode. The entries of Ünder or Luis Suarez were not enough to give another impetus and avoid defeat. After Ajaccio, Paris and Lens, Marseille lost for the 4th time in 5 matches, the third in a row. A very bad operation in view of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Tonight, the reflection in the mirror is hard but fair, OM without being ridiculous is not at the level.
10/26/22 – 11:08 p.m. – Clauss: “It wasn’t enough”
“We made a very average start, we conceded a goal. We reacted well and behind, we took one back on careless mistakes. We tried to push and play. It was not enough. We have a final to play next week against Tottenham”said Jonathan Clauss, calling on his teammates to react quickly and move on to focus on the weekend’s match and especially next Wednesday’s match against English Tottenham.
10/26/22 – 11:03 p.m. – OM’s bad patch
By losing in Frankfurt, Olympique de Marseille confirmed that they are going through a very complicated period in this month of October only illuminated by the two successes against Sporting Portugal. Igor Tudor’s men have lost four times in six matches in all competitions, including the last three.
10/26/22 – 10:59 p.m. – Twelve years ago..
Marseille had the opportunity to chain a third success in the Champions League but everything went wrong in Frankfurt and the Marseille club will have to wait to succeed in this pass of three in the event. The last time he achieved this was in the 2010-2011 season.
10/26/22 – 10:55 p.m. – Harit: “The disappointment is great”
First player to come and speak, Hamine Harit did not hide the feelings that animated him and the whole Marseille group after this setback in Frankfurt. “The disappointment is great. We had a bad start to the match. We conceded two goals a bit stupidly but we managed to come back to the score. The details made us lose tonight. It’s frustrating to lose a match that didn’t not been bad”explained the OM midfielder who was struggling to analyze the reasons for the defeat.
26/10/22 – 22:51 – It’s over between Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympique Marseille (2-1)
Olympique de Marseille fails in Frankfurt and fundamentally complicates the task (1-2). Dominated in the first period and led at the break after goals from Kamada and Kolo Muani, the Marseillais had control in the second act but were only shown to be dangerous at too few moments, falling each time on an excellent Trapp. With this defeat, they see the prospects of a qualification in the round of 16 become blurred, allowing the Germans to go back in front of them in Group D.
26/10/22 – 22:50 – Marseille is doing well
N’Dicka still has enough juice to go forward and invest the left lane. His center is well brushed but Kolasinac deviates in front of Borré. The recovery is laborious for Marseillais who look cooked.
26/10/22 – 22:49 – Additional time: 3 minutes
There are still at least three minutes left for Olympique de Marseille to equalize after a well-controlled second period but without any big chances.
26/10/22 – 22:47 – N’Dicka blocks Suarez
Suarez makes the call behind N’Dicka’s back and is found. The Marseille striker, however, is tightly squeezed by the Frankfurt defender and can only get one touch, his cross being blocked.
10/26/22 – 10:45 p.m. – Lopez solid on his line
The Germans still have legs at the end of the match and Alidou is up front on the right. The defender knits in front of Nuno Tavares and finds a supporting teammate. The action continues and results in a cross taken up in the area by Borré. His head does not worry a Pau Lopez vigilant on his line.
10/26/22 – 10:43 p.m. – Weight ahead for OM
5 minutes from the end of regulation time, Tudor decides to send Luis Suarez into the arena to take over from Clauss. The striker will come to play in front next to Alexis Sanchez, while Ünder will come to the right.
26/10/22 – 22:41 – Double chance for Ünder and offside
Nice Marseille initiative from the right with Clauss who combines with Alexis Sanchez. The side relies on Harit as a pivot who deviates to the left for Ünder. The Turk moves away and strikes for the first time. It’s countered, like the second. Finally the flag goes up to signal an offside for Harit.
