19:01 – A rehearsal for the 2030 World Cup
The organization of the 2025 African Cup of Nations will be a good rehearsal (organization, infrastructure, logistics, marketing) for the 2030 World Cup. Morocco will be one of the three main organizing countries with Portugal and Spain . Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will have to host a single meeting.
18:55 – Second CAN in Morocco
This is the second time that Morocco has organized the African Cup of Nations. The first took place in 1988, it was won by Cameroon against Nigeria (3 goals to 1). Also designated as the organizing country for the 2015 edition, Morocco withdrew a few months before the start of the edition. The Moroccan Federation justified this about-face (rightly or wrongly) by the emergence of the Ebola epidemic on the continent during this period. The leaders of the Federation requested a postponement which was refused by the CAF which imposed a fine of 1 million dollars on the FMF
18:48 – An unprecedented first on this CAN 2025
For the first time in history, the African Cup of Nations will take place between two years (2025 and 2026). The competition will therefore take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. This still does not help European clubs who will be deprived of the majority of great African players during a good part of this period.

The draw will be broadcast in full on the Bein Max 4 Channel, you can also follow the event on the CAF Youtube channel.
18:28 – The four hats
As a reminder, the 24 qualified teams will be divided into 4 hats. The draw will therefore determine the 6 groups (of 4 teams) for the first round. The two best nations in each group as well as the four best third places will qualify for the round of 16.
The different hats are composed according to the Fifa ranking, here are the details:
- Hat 1: Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast
- Hat 2: Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, Burkina Faso.
- Hat 3: Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Benin
- Hat 4: Mozambique, Comoros, Tanzania, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Botswana
18:21 – 9 stadiums planned for the final phase
Initially six in number in six different cities, Rabat, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakech, Casablanca and Fez in particular, the number of arenas selected has increased to nine. In addition to the Moulay Abdellah Stadium, three venues in the capital were additionally selected. These are the Crown Prince Moulay Hassan Sports Complex (12,000 seats), the Al Barid Stadium and the Olympic Annex Stadium (15,000 seats)
Morocco will host the AFCON Morocco 2025 tournament with 9 stadiums, marking a historic first for Africa????????????

18:14 – Only one big absentee
All the major nations are qualified for the final phase of this African Cup except for one continent, Ghana. The Black Stars completely failed in the qualifiers by finishing last in Group F behind Angola, Sudan and Niger. Jordan Ayew’s partners, who nevertheless played in the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, were only able to collect 3 small points in 6 matches.
