In September 2021, Paris had decided to reduce by 50% the number of visas granted to Algeria and Morocco to put pressure on governments deemed too uncooperative in the readmission of their nationals expelled from France. A hardening that has cast a chill over relations between Morocco and France. Calls are increasing, on the Moroccan and French side, to put an end to this “visa war” which has poisoned relations between the two countries for more than a year.
