An Ethiopian diplomatic car creates problems in Stockholm’s public transport.
The car was abandoned on the railway track during the night and the driver disappeared from the scene.
– We think it has been driven on the tracks, but from which location we cannot comment, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson at the police.
Between the stations Alviks Strand and Stora Essingen in Stockholm, a minibus was abandoned on the tracks of the cross track. Line 30 between Sickla and Solna station has been canceled as a result of the incident and SL expects that traffic will be able to resume sometime during Sunday morning.
– At two o’clock last night we received a call that they had been left, we have been there and confirmed that it is correct, says Ola Österling.
The car is a diplomatic car belonging to Ethiopia and the incident is being investigated by the police as negligence in traffic.
– If it has not already been done, we will contact the embassy this morning, says Ola Österling.
The police have been in contact with the Swedish Transport Administration, which has removed the car from the track area.
– I don’t know where it was taken to, says Ola Österling.
“Driven up via a ramp”
According to SL’s press manager Andreas Strömberg, you should not be able to enter that part of the track area with a car.
– But it seems to have driven up via a ramp, it has come up too far up the track area, that shouldn’t happen and you don’t make mistakes and drive the wrong way here, says Andreas Strömberg.
He believes that someone must have decided to drive onto the track area.
– There are certain places on the cross track where you can accidentally end up in the train’s own tracks, but this is not a common place like that. If that mistake happens, the car usually stops after only a few metres. But here they have managed to enter the track area and drive away, says Andreas Strömberg.
Towed the car out of the area
At 09.17, traffic was up and running on the route.
– We have received the vehicle, but it may take a while before we are on schedule again, says Andreas Strömberg.
A track tractor was used to remove the minibus from the track.
– They made holes in the fence and pulled it away, says Andreas Strömberg.
