In Australia, a 24-year-old woman has been attacked by a pack of dingoes while she was out jogging on a beach. The woman was on the sand island of K’gari off the east coast of Australia when three to four dingoes attacked and chased the woman into the sea. Two passers-by rescued the woman, who was flown to hospital in an ambulance helicopter.

The woman’s condition was stable, but she had received many bite wounds on her arms, legs and upper body.

Authorities say wild dog attacks have become more common on the island in recent years and urge tourists to be careful. For example, they are asked to keep children at arm’s length and walk with a cane. A month ago, a dingo attacked a seven-year-old boy and bit a 42-year-old tourist in the buttocks.

George Seymour, mayor of the Fraser Coast, considers the increase in the number of attacks very serious.

“Something has happened in the last two years,” Seymour said. “The development is very, very worrying because it is very unpleasant to be attacked by wild animals.”
