Digital Rosarno, the Open Fiber network innovates Calabria

(Finance) – In Calabria the project continues digitization Of Open Fiberwhich in the Municipality of Rosarno has completed the works for the construction of the new one public ultra-broadband telecommunications network. An infrastructure that allows citizens, professionals and entrepreneurs of the Calabrian municipality to surf the Internet with effective and cutting-edge performance.

There ultra-fast network available today in the city of Rosarno, it extends for 6.6 kilometers and reaches 174 real estate units including homes, commercial activities, agricultural businesses through FTTH technology (Fiber-to-the-home, the optical fiber extended up to the inside of the buildings) the only one capable of returning connection speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second and latency of less than 5 milliseconds. In particular, Open Fiber’s intervention was concentrated in the Contrada Bosco area (Vie Stradone 2,3, 4, 5, 6 and 7), where various houses and commercial outlets are located. Two schools will also be able to make use of ultra-fast connectivity for teaching purposes: the nursery school in via Stradone 5 and the ‘Bosco’ school complex in via Stradone 6.

The infrastructure was financed with regional funds as part of the Ultra Broadband Plan (BUL) managed by Infratel Italia, an in-house company of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, under the coordination of the Calabria Region. The impact for laying the fiber is greatly reduced, thanks to innovative and sustainable excavation techniques that allow Open Fiber to reuse existing infrastructure.
