Digital euro, Bancomat: feasibility study is underway

Digital euro Bancomat feasibility study is underway

(Finance) – ATM carried out a feasibility study aimed at assessing its positioning within the digital euro, following the initiative of the European Central Bank relating to the design and development of its “Central Bank Digital Currency”. The company that manages the withdrawal and payment circuits communicates this in a note, specifying that “The objective of the study is to identify the ‘value proposition’ of Bancomat in the digital euro era, and ensure rapid adoption of the Italian ecosystem. Bancomat intends to offer a complete service to banks and end users, consumers and merchants, placing itself for the future as a facilitator for the diffusion of the advanced payment instrument “.

The studio has therefore opened the doors to the experiments that society, cjointly with the Italian Banking Association, it hopes to activate, sharing the ECB’s results, so as to concretely support the final design and launch of the digital Euro.

“The Bancomat Spa’s contribution to the digital Euro project would make it possible to enhance, within the European framework, an Italian model that has been a reference point for the entire market for over 40 years. The study, albeit in its experimental phase, has highlighted the opportunities for an active participation of Bancomat in the adoption of advanced payments: the possibility of creating a solution that can be used at the country system level which, thanks to its pervasiveness, guarantees its scalability, both nationally and internationally, “he said Alessandro Zollo, CEO Bancomat, explaining that “the centrality of our infrastructure is such as to support a project with such high potential, capable of minimizing the implementation times of the new model and at the same time guaranteeing stability and progress by leveraging a model which is synonymous with safety and reliability for all Italians “

In detail, Bancomat as a “technology provider” intends to host the operation of the digital Euro in the Bancomat Pay service, which would guarantee the use of a single digital wallet, already known by the user, regardless of the currency used. Furthermore, Bancomat will be able to combine the “wallet provider” service with a solution for the custody of “private keys”, essential for the functioning of digital currencies, providing security on the digital assets owned. To support the operation of the entire payment operation, Bancomat could also oroffer its own infrastructural engine, such as “Central Hub”, for the connection and execution of payments.
