Türkiye is holding its breath for a historic journey and only hours are left. At 01.11 at night, Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı will begin his space journey. Before the launch, Gezeravcı’s family came to the USA. Explaining that Gezeravcı surprised them, the family expressed their pride in their son’s undertaking this mission on the 100th anniversary of the Republic and said that they did not know the objects belonging to the nomadic culture that Gezeravcı would take with him to space. Gezeravcı’s nephew asked his uncle, whom he calls ‘bestie’, for something that would be very difficult to bring back…
THE MOST DIFFICULT TASK FOR GEZERAVCI FROM HIS NIECE
Gezeravcı’s family made evaluations to the AA correspondent in the USA, where they came for the launch.
Alper Gezeravcı’s father, Ali Gezeravcı, said that they were happy that their son took on this duty as an astronaut on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
Stating that he never thought that his son would go to space, Gezeravcı said, “Tears of happiness flowed from our eyes when we found out. We live in Mersin Silifke. Our relatives and loved ones honored us by personally calling us and coming to visit us when they heard about it. Some primary school students also came to our house, saying ‘we came to see our astronaut uncle’. Alper said “I have always been proud of him for being an F-16 pilot, but I am also very happy that he will be an astronaut. May God continue his success.” he said.
Mother Sıdıka Gezeravcı also emphasized that her son is a very excited, smart and hard-working child, and said that he said he wanted to be a pilot when he was 5 years old.
Mother Gezeravcı, who said that he always told her, “Mom, when I grow up, I will be a pilot. I will fly a plane,” said, “I didn’t believe it at first. It was not my dream, but he made it happen. We learned, together with the whole of Turkey, that he would be an astronaut. He surprised us too. He keeps secrets very well. He successfully accomplished it.” I pray for it to come and go.” she said.
