Iconic goal gesture

I signed for IFK Norrköping in January 1990 and then had a secret dream of participating in the WC during the summer. I was far from that but trained like a pig and it went well, says Tomas Brolin in the podcast Tutto Balutto.

He continues:

We played against IFK Göteborg in the first match who were favorites to win the entire series. At that time there was no social media, only two television channels and as many newspapers. This match was televised.

“Get out of your own way”

I knew that I need to score some goals for them (the national team) to open their eyes to me. We won by 60 and I scored three goals. I was so happy that I didn’t know where to go so I just jumped up and then it came by itself, says Brolin.

The icon means that the target gesture was not planned in advance:

It was more of a relief that it went well. When the second goal came, I ran the spin again. The next day it was in the newspapers about it (the target gesture). Then I remember doing it after all the goals in 1990.

Tomas Brolin ended his career at the age of 28 after a period of injuries.
