Didier Deschamps extended at the head of the France team

The contract of Didier Deschamps at the head of the France team has been extended until 2026, announced the coach of the Blues during the General Assembly of the French Football Federation on Saturday January 7 in Paris. Arriving at the controls of the France team in 2012, Deschamps was at the end of his contract at the end of the World Cup in Qatar where the Blues reached the final, won by Argentina.

The contract of the coach of the Blues had ended on December 31, two weeks after the final of the World Cup lost against Argentina on penalties (3-3 ap). Deschamps and the president of the Federation Noël Le Graët had met on December 29, without agreeing on the conditions of the extension.

In December 2019, the previous contract extension had been validated by the Comex four days before the winter assembly of the French football body.

Until Friday, January 6, several stumbling blocks persisted between the two parties, including, in the first place, the duration of the contract. Deschamps, in office since 2012, wanted to commit until the 2026 World Cup in North America, while Le Graët prefers to set Euro-2024 as the horizon.
