Did you miss the deadline to resell your refurbished smartphone

If you are wondering about the optimal period to resell your refurbished phone, our expert Valentin Klein di Giacomo shares his best advice to maximize your profits. Be careful to stay on schedule!

The mobile phone market is booming. This is why, when it comes to refurbished smartphones, several criteria must be respected to satisfy buyers and sellers. What are the most coveted models? At what price can we hope to resell them? And when is the most favorable time for an attractive transaction? Valentin Klein di Giacomo, IS Director, Business Development and Innovation at Easy Cash, tells us everything.

A striking observation emerges: iPhones and Samsungs follow different trajectories in terms of discount. “For example, one year after its release, an iPhone 14 loses around 25% of its value, while a Samsung S23 loses around 35% over the same period”, explains Valentin Klein di Giacomo. In general, Samsung phones undergo a faster discount than iPhones and this is more pronounced on the previous model. “Very concretely, an iPhone 14 purchased for 750 euros will be resold for around 550 euros one year after its release,” confides the expert. “A Samsung S23 purchased for 600 euros the year of its release will, for its part, be resold for an average of 370 euros a year later.”

But an essential factor must be taken into account if you want to sell your refurbished smartphone at the best price. “Concerning the evolution of the purchase price of a smartphone, there are two key moments. The purchase price continually drops quite quickly during the first 6 months before reaching a plateau. The purchase price then remains stable some time, before continuing its decline, but more slowly. The price continues to fall little by little, then from the 18th month, the purchase price will fall more quickly. declares the SI Easy Cash Director. In summary, the ideal time to resell your refurbished phone is around 6 months after the date of purchase. The resale price remains attractive up to 18 months after the date of purchase. Afterwards, it’s a collapse.

On the other hand, certain models are still on the rise, despite their age. “Indeed, these are appreciated for their so-called second-hand use”, says Valentin Klein di Giacomo. That is to say, they are primarily dedicated to calls or listening to music. This is particularly the case for the Huawei P30 Lite 128 GB model, currently sold for around 120 euros. Also, the Oppo Find X3 Lite 128 GB model, sold for around 140 euros or the Motorola E13 64 GB for 70 euros. So, if one of these old phones is lying around in your drawers, you know what you have to do!
