This is where the repair bonus comes in.
You can benefit from it on no less than 49 types of equipment, provided that they are no longer under warranty: digital cameras, vacuum cleaners, game consoles, drones, washing machines, dishwashers , coffee machines, desktop and laptop computers, food processors, tumble dryers, landline and cell phones, tablets, televisions, drills, cookers, hoods, ovens, hobs, electrically assisted bicycles, kettles, toasters, juicers, centrifuges and extractors, refrigerators and freezers, irons, steam generators, electric scooters, lawn mowers and hedge trimmers electrical appliances, sports equipment, video projectors, DVD players, various audio devices, etc. HAS from 1er January 2024, other devices will also be supported (printers and scanners, monitors, all-in-one desktop computers, epilators, electric shavers, etc.), which will bring the total number of equipment concerned to 71.
The amount of the repair premium varies depending on the product. Currently, it represents between 20 and 25% of the total bill, for a sum of between 15 and 45 €. The Government has, however, decided to increase the amounts for five large appliances (washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, vacuum cleaner and television): and from 1er January 2024, the amount reimbursed will vary between 25 and 90 € depending on the product – in addition to expanding the categories of devices covered by this system – the replacement of a broken smartphone screen, one of the most widespread repairs, may be covered.
What is practical is that the amount of this premium is directly deducted from the invoice. You therefore have no formalities to complete to benefit from it, whether before or after: everything is automatic. In addition, you can contact a specialized workshop as well as a store, whether it is an industrial or independent repairer, a craftsman, or even the after-sales service of the distributor or manufacturer. And you can have this repair carried out at home. Furthermore, from 1er February 2024, you will also be able to call a repairer remotely
But be careful, in all cases, there is an essential condition to respect in order to benefit from this reduction: you must absolutely have the repairs carried out by a certified professional. And if you go through an uncertified repairer, your device will undoubtedly be repaired, but you will not be entitled to the bonus, and you will pay more!
This bonus was put in place in order to fight against planned obsolescence, which itself is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions – the production of a device being the most polluting phase of its existence, because of raw material extraction, you need to use equipment for the longest time to reduce its environmental impact. A more than laudable intention – we are still throwing away far too many repairable devices that could have a second or even a third life. It remains to be hoped that repairers will not take advantage of this to inflate prices and artificially overcharge their services in order to make higher margins, as is sometimes the case with this type of operation.
