The neglect was discovered in the fall of 2020 when the man, who lives in the northern parts of Uppsala county, visited a veterinarian to have the dog’s claws clipped.
The vet stated that the 15-year-old dog was in poor condition. Among other things, it was emaciated and had difficulty moving. The dog also had tartar on all teeth and gingivitis. According to the vet, the teeth had been in poor condition for several months.
The dog owner was advised to euthanize the dog, but he did not want to because of financial reasons. The veterinarian raised the alarm to the county administrative board, which decided to immediately take care of the dog and to give the man a pet ban.
Now the man, who neither admitted nor denied the crime, has been sentenced to 120 daily fines for animal cruelty. He was also convicted of violating the Animal Welfare Act.
