Dictation from the Champs-Elysées: which text will be read?

Dictation from the Champs Elysees which text will be read

In Paris, the Champs-Elysées will be the scene of the largest dictation in the world, Sunday June 4, 2023. But what text will be read to the participants?

The Champs-Elysées transformed… into a classroom. The most iconic of the avenues of Paris will welcome, on Sunday June 4, 2023, hundreds of desks and chairs on its cobblestones during a giant dictation. A first on this artery, pedestrianized like every first Sunday of the month. More than 5,000 people should take part in this event and test their level of French by transcribing a text, in an unusual setting for such an activity. The objective is clear: to make it the largest dictation in the world.

Several texts read during the Champs-Elysées dictation

It is during the afternoon that the papers and pens will adorn the avenue, with the Arc de Triomphe in the background, the installations being planned on the upper part of the axis, between the metro station George V and the Place de l’Etoile. Open to participants from the age of 10, the writing test will be broken down into three stages:

  • 1:30 p.m.: first dictation, entitled “Dictation from our childhood”
  • 4 p.m.: second dictation, entitled “Today’s dictation”
  • 4 p.m.: third dictation, entitled “Sports dictation”

When registering, you are asked to choose a slot. There Paris city hall however, does not specify whether it is possible to register several times to participate in various dictations. Only limit: 1700 people maximum will be welcomed on each session. The event was a great success since more than 40,000 registration requests were registered, but only the defined quota can be filled, by drawing lots. All sessions will therefore display full.

The three texts which will be read, in turn, by Augustin Trapenard, journalist presenter of La Grande Librairie on France 5, Katherine Pancol, novelist, and Pierre Rabadan, assistant to Anne Hidalgo in charge of sports and the Olympics.
