There were never games in the NHL or any major rain of money.
But Dick Axelsson is quite satisfied with how his playing career turned out anyway.
– It has been quite good, he tells Sportbibeln.
Earlier this year announced Dick Axelsson that he, for the third time like, ends his hockey career. For good this time. The announcement comes after a long career, where Axelsson stood out as one of the most outspoken and honest characters in Swedish hockey.
Axelsson’s career
Dick has often dared to say exactly what he thinks, even if it goes against everyone else. It has sometimes led to negative consequences such as fines, but it has also made him a big profile in the SHL and Swedish hockey.
Axelsson was a great talent who emerged in Huddinge, before there was play in the Elitserien. Drafted in 2006 by the Detroit Red Wings, and in the 09/10 season the Stockholmer joined the NHL club’s organization.

There was never a game in the NHL, but 17 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. After not enjoying himself in North America, Axelsson returned to Sweden, where there were games in Färjestad, Modo, Frölunda, and Djurgården. With Färjestad, there were two SM golds.
There was also an adventure abroad in Switzerland with games in HC Davos.
No regrets
Now the fun is over, but Dick Axelsson is satisfied when he sums up his career.
– I have read a lot that I never realized my potential and that I was so talented and so on. But I think that when you look at the statistics and some titles, what you have been involved in and all the international matches, I could probably say with a pat on the back that it has been quite good, says Axelsson to Sportbibeln.

Is there anything you regret from your hockey career?
– Not really. Maybe that you would have traveled around in the past and earned more money, maybe, that’s it. But otherwise, I think I’ve made a pretty good choice. I don’t like to look back either, of course you’ve done some bad ones too, but I think all in all, I don’t regret anything right away. And what I’m proud of is that I went home from the US when you weren’t feeling well and didn’t want to be there.

Best moment
What is the best moment from your hockey career?
– That is difficult. I’ve always said the WC gold in 2013, and it’s also above all that it was on home ground, at the Globe. But I would probably choose these two SM golds against that WC gold actually, says Dick Axelsson.
