Dick Axelsson is not afraid to express his opinions.
Now he points out who really is the best Swedish hockey player ever.
– He is my biggest hero, says Axelsson to Sportbibeln.
When choosing the best Swedish hockey player of all time, there are quite a few players to choose from. In recent years, however, it is usually boiled down to three candidates – Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström.
Axelsson’s honesty
The former hockey player Dick Axelsson is not one of the names that usually appears in discussions about the best ever. But he really is a big profile in Swedish hockey. In Sweden, Axelsson has played in Färjestad and Frölunda, among others, but is greatest in Djurgården.

The 36-year-old also had time to test the wings in the AHL and Switzerland, before he put the skates on the shelf earlier this year. In addition to his hockey playing, Dick has made a name for himself by being very outspoken, honest, and not afraid to voice his opinions. Despite the fact that during his career he could ride on punishments and consequences.
Dick’s choice
For Sportbibeln, Dick Axelsson has, among other things, revealed everything about his relationship with Leif Bork, what he really thinks about today’s SHL, and who his hockey idol was growing up. The answer to that was Peter Forsberg. But when it comes to choosing between “Foppa”, Mats Sundin, and Nicklas Lidström, Axelsson takes a different route.

Instead, he points out the player who is a major icon in the Toronto Maple Leafs, who was inducted into hockey’s “Hall of Fame” in 2012, and who won both the Olympics and the World Cup with Three Crowns.
– On the whole, I still think “Sudden” has been a machine. Then you saw a little more of Peter Forsberg, with his will, whininess, and that he fought and did everything. So it is he who has distinguished himself, but I still think that Mats Sundin is the biggest hero in that way for me, says Dick Axelsson to Sportbibeln.
