Diamonds worth billions recovered after German jewel coup

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

A large proportion of the treasures stolen from Dresden’s Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) jewel museum have been recovered following the spectacular coup of 2019. Prosecutors and police say 31 items have been found in Berlin – several of which are said to be intact.

The items must have been secured after negotiations with the defendants’ defense lawyers.

– This shows that even three years after this painful break-in, it was worth not giving up hope and following all the clues, says Saxony’s regional culture minister Barbara Klepsch.

There is no information on the circumstances under which the items were found. Parts of the stolen goods are still missing.

Since January, six men have been indicted for the coup where, among other things, a diamond brooch was stolen. The total value of the stolen goods had an insurance value of close to 114 million euros, which corresponds to just under 1.3 billion Swedish kronor.
