On Christmas Day 2022, a man was shot to death in Rinkeby in northwest Stockholm. It was the start of the wave of violence that later swept over Stockholm, Uppsala and several other cities in Sweden.
In the autumn of 2023, the gang violence took another turn: it became an internal conflict in the criminal network Foxtrot. During September, it led, among other things, to seven deaths in 14 days.
The leaders are abroad
Many of those who instigated the shootings and explosions are abroad. Something that gave them a protected position and a distance from the deadly violence, says Diamant Salihu.
– It is perhaps only now at the end that they also feel the sadness, when their own family members have become targets in these conflicts.
