Diablo IV opens its own cathedral, where you can now pay homage to Lilith

Those who feel particularly loyal to Lilith from Diablo IV can now pay homage to her in a real cathedral of terror and must travel to a devilish place – France.

Video game stories can be really compelling at times. And who wouldn’t want to give their soul to be fully committed to Diablo 4’s Lilith? For a few weeks you can, because Blizzard has redesigned a real-life cathedral and added a huge, hellish work of art.

What is this work of art? Led by Diablo IV Art Director John Mueller, a colossal work of art was created to cover the ceiling of an entire cathedral. The work is a little over 220 square meters and shows the journey of the hero from Diablo IV and how it finally comes to the encounter with the demonic ruler Lilith.

The whole Diablo series is based on rather dark, gothic works of art and this is exactly the style of the huge painting on the cathedral ceiling.

You can see the behind-the-scenes video of the artwork here:

Diablo 4 uses a “desecrated” church for demonic purposes

What kind of church is this? If you’re wondering what kind of deal Blizzard must have made with the devil to decorate a church with demonic artwork, don’t worry. The “Chapelle des Jésuites” in Cameric (“Cambrai”) was deconsecrated long ago and has therefore lost its religious use. Instead, it has been used as a museum with various exhibitions for almost 70 years.

When can you see the artwork? If you want to make the journey to see the artwork live, you can visit the cathedral in Cameric between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until June 11, 2023. So if you are in France in the next few weeks anyway , then the Chapelle des Jésuites pays a little visit to pay homage to the only true ruler.

What do you think of this project? A cool thing and just impressive? Or shouldn’t a cathedral – even one already desecrated – be used for such a thing?

At that time, Diablo didn’t deal with its own story so well: In Diablo II, you simply “forgot” to write down the story.
