The German ARPG expert Wudijo has assessed the status of Diablo Immortal in a YouTube video. He believes that the game is particularly good as a mobile game and sets “new standards”. However, he also sees major problems that could lead to the death of the game in the long run.
Who is the expert? Wudijo is a German full-time streamer and is known to many fans thanks to the Diablo games. He has published many popular guides in written form on the “Maxroll” page or linked them on his YouTube channel.
The Diablo 3 expert has also put many hours into Diablo Immortal. On his server (Dark Wanderer EU) he is currently the highest ranked monk in the PvP leaderboards. According to his own statement, his character is completely Free2Play.
What is his opinion on Diablo Immortal? In a nearly 20-minute video, Wudjio gave a detailed analysis of Blizzard’s new MMORPG. Unsurprisingly, he also talks a lot about the question of whether Diablo Immortal is Pay2Win.
The expert begins the video with some statements about the overall quality of the game. He says a lot of exuberantly positive things:
However, as the title of the video suggests, the expert believes that Diablo Immortal could have big problems in the long term. The title is: “What must be done to prevent Diablo Immortal from dying a quick death?”
Here you can see the complete video:
How could the game die? For Wudjio, PvP is clearly more than just a sideline in the game or even just something for hardcore gamers like him. On the contrary: The game has a “strong focus on PvP” as the title of the game and things like the shadow war show.
And because in PvP the people who invest the most will quickly crush the Free2Play players, there is a gap between Free2Play and Pay2Win players. Wudjio has no doubt that the game is Pay2Win – after all, it is a mobile game, he says.
Since you can theoretically invest an infinite amount of money in the game, this gap can only get bigger. And that’s a problem for both types of players, says the expert.
The gaps are simply too big, which is why there is “no reason to even bother anymore”.
In our video we give you a short and helpful overview of all classes in Diablo Immortal:
How can Diablo Immortal save itself? So if there’s going to be any form of long-term motivation in the game, there needs to be some kind of “normalization taking place,” says Wudjio. Also, there has to be some goal to work toward as a player.
Free2Play players would have very few things to do, whereas “Not only is Pay2Win uncapped, it’s also not timed yet.”
As a potential solution, Wudjio suggests that the gear difference in PvP be limited to a maximum of 10%, regardless of the actual difference in stats outside of PvP. So Pay2Win players would have a numerical advantage, but the best Free2Play gamers could still win with good gameplay.
Diablo Immortal fans mock Pay2Win discussion: “Sorry I like the game”
What do you think of his analysis and his suggestions for improvement? Do you agree that PvP is an important and big part of Diablo Immortal? Or is PvE and Free2Play enough for you? Tell us in the comments.
