Diablo Immortal is 1 Month Old – How is the Controversial Mobile MMO Now?

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

A little over a month ago, Diablo Immortal was the first true Diablo MMO. It started with great success, but also under heavy criticism and with huge discussions. Now the game is quiet. MeinMMO checks the status and shows what the future will bringt.

Here’s how Diablo Immortal started:

The endgame area and the last dungeon in the trailer created a good atmosphere back then – but they were also the last major “content update” so far:

Diablo Immortal has been stagnant for too long

What about Diablo Immortal now? At least the financial success of Diablo Immortal continues. According to the analysis website AppMagic, the mobile MMO is said to have earned the equivalent of over 47 million euros in the first month (via mobilegamer.biz).

However, interest in the game in general is declining sharply. The number of viewers on Twitch fell drastically after the first few days (via sullygnome.com). Many streamers now prefer to show Diablo 3 again, even though it’s 10 years old.

Fewer and fewer people are also searching for Diablo Immortal on Google. For us at MeinMMO, for example, the Google trends are an important indicator of interest in games. Global search volume has fallen to less than a quarter compared to when it was released:

The situation shows that while Diablo Immortal is a financial success despite criticism, it appears it won’t last indefinitely. At least not if the developers and Blizzard don’t change something soon.

What is the problem? After the great criticism of the Pay2Win aspect of Diablo Immortal, a number of influencers turned their backs on the game. Even the major service website, Maxroll.GG, has stopped covering Diablo Immortal because it is inconsistent with morality.

The bigger problem, however, is that since the release there has been radio silence when it comes to updates. There was exactly one patch for the still buggy PC version a week after release. Bugs remain and new content is missing.

There has only been one content update so far. That brought in Vitaath, a new raid boss, but it’s way too heavy. The Battle Pass expires in a few days and there is still no information on what will happen after that – only the promise that something is coming “soon”.

Since Diablo Immortal was played a lot despite the discussions, there are thousands of players who have also dealt with the content in Free2Play. There are even comparisons where Immortal performs better than Diablo 2. However, the players are now getting to the point where they have nothing more to do.

Once they reach the endgame, there is nothing left to do except grind for higher levels and legendaries. Diablo is all about looting and leveling, and the grind wouldn’t be the problem if it weren’t for loot caps and other issues that keep fans busy.

In the podcast, editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski and editor-in-chief Gerd Schuhmann talk about Pay2Win in Diablo Immortal:

“How long until this game dies?”

Here’s how players see it: Many hardcore gamers quit after just a few days. Diablo Immortal’s systems prohibit them from grinding as much as they want and still making progress unless they pay.

In the meantime, however, casuals have also arrived at this point, which make up the far larger part of the players. Questions keep popping up on reddit and other social media as to when Diablo Immortal will die and reports of dead servers. The players are said to no longer find groups to overcome the dungeons.

From the difficulty hell 1 you need a group for a dungeon. The further some players get, the more the community is divided into different levels of difficulty. Accordingly, it takes longer and longer to find players.

Another big problem is the PvP system with the two factions, shadows and immortals. Here there is only a change in the leading faction every week or so. There would be little incentive for shadows to work towards this showdown for so long.

These are suggestions for improvement: In many threads, players state that they would like to continue. You just don’t have the incentive to do so. They have some ideas that they would come back for if implemented:

  • Dungeons should be soloable
  • The limits for loot and resources would have to be raised
  • Rewards need to be significantly better
  • Free2Play players need more chances to compete
  • For example, one of the ideas is to revise the legendary gems system. Legendary gems can be obtained for free, but it takes an extremely long time. If there were better ways to earn the important items, more players would have an incentive to play.

In the video we explain to you exactly what the gemstones are all about and how you get them:

What content is still to come? Diablo Immortal is a service game like WoW and should also receive updates like one. We already know what upcoming content is planned from some conversations with the developers:

Since Diablo lives from looting and leveling, supplies should also come here. New legendaries and sets have already been promised, but we don’t yet know what they will be. In our list you can find all Diablo Immortal sets and where to find them.

At the moment, Diablo Immortal offers 6 classes, which you can find ranked in our tier list. You can see the gameplay in the video here:

When are the updates due? MeinMMO asked Blizzard about the current status and a roadmap a few weeks ago. So far, however, there has only been information directly from the source that more information should come “soon”.

Exactly why this is taking so long cannot be said at the moment. Blizzard is bringing Diablo Immortal to most Asian countries on July 7th. From there, you might expect more information to follow.

It is possible that all players worldwide should receive updates at the same time so that there are not different versions in circulation that have to be managed. However, this is pure speculation.

If that is the case, it is not possible to foresee exactly when the first updates will come. Because Diablo Immortal cannot appear in China yet:
