Diablo 4: Trade Explained – How can I trade and what items are allowed?

You want to trade with your friends in Diablo 4 and give them a great Legendary, but it doesn’t work? MeinMMO reveals how trading works and what you can trade.

How can I trade with others?

  • Stand next to a player so that the context menu appears.
  • Press “E” (PC) or “D-pad up” (PS, Xbox). Select “Invite to Trade”. If the other player confirms, you can act.
  • You don’t have to be in a group and you can also trade across platforms. Diablo 4 supports full crossplay.
  • What items can I trade? Since Diablo 4 itself doesn’t really explain the trade, here’s a list of what you can give to other players:

  • common (white), magic (blue) and rare (yellow) items
  • gems
  • gold
  • potions
  • What can’t I trade? For a while, it was possible for you to even trade Legendary Aspects. That was a bug and has now been fixed. The list of items that you cannot trade is correspondingly longer:

Yellow items are more important than you think

Many players are annoyed that they can’t trade legendary items with their friends. Not even if they were in the group when they were found and are standing right next to it. That severely restricts the co-op, according to the criticism.

This is especially annoying when you’re missing a certain aspect to improve your build or make it work.

However, this is less dramatic than it first sounds. Rare, i.e. yellow items, can become much more important later in the game. From World Tier 4, “Legacy” items can drop, the strongest in the game.

This applies to all items, including rare ones. You can then transform these into Legendaries via extracted aspects or the Code of Power. Since rare items are found significantly more often than legendary ones, it’s easier to find the god roll here. Later in the game, what you want most of all is:

Since rare items can be traded before an enchantment, you can at least make your friends happy with them. So be careful what you pick up, even if it looks useless to you and your class.

In the guide we explain when you should keep items and when to sell or recycle them:
