Season 4 of Diablo 4 seems to be exciting many players. On Steam, the ARPG has been able to maintain its numbers for three weeks and is even showing an increase. The community is now discussing possible reasons for this.
Season 4 started in Diablo 4 about three weeks ago and has excited many players with its new features. The entire loot system has been reworked, there are new crafting systems and new endgame content. Blizzard has also solved an annoying problem with one change and players call it a “game changer”.
The new season is apparently attracting a lot of (new) players. On Steam, Diablo 4 has not only been able to maintain its player numbers since May 14th – there has even been an increase. The community is currently discussing on Reddit why this might be the case.
What do the numbers look like on Steam? When the season started on May 14, Diablo 4 had almost 15,000 players on Steam (source: steamdb). On May 15, the number rose to over 24,000. On May 19, there were even over 29,000 players, a record for the game on Steam.
What’s particularly interesting here is that the numbers have barely dropped since the release. There were some drops, but on June 5th it was back up to almost 30,000 players, as you can see from the graph:
In comparison, the biggest competitors on Steam, Path of Exile and Last Epoch, are struggling with significantly greater losses:
It should be noted that Diablo 4 only launched on Steam long after its release. The main platforms are Battle.net for PC and consoles, i.e. PS4, PS5 and Xbox. The vast majority of players are here.
Although there are no official figures, the tracking website Activeplayer.io speaks of over a million players at peak daily and over 4 million active users per month.
New content, good grind and 50% discount
How does the community explain this? On reddit, user “Deidarac5” posted a similar graph showing player growth on June 3. He noted that Diablo 4 is “still hitting the same numbers” three weeks into Season 4. The post garnered over 1,300 upvotes and more than 600 comments.
In the comments, the community discusses the possible reasons for the constant number of players, which currently seems to be even increasing:
The new features, the revised endgame and also the current sale seem to be reasons for the currently constant player base, but also for the increase in numbers on Steam.
The numbers may also increase in the coming days, because Diablo 4 is celebrating its birthday. To mark its one-year anniversary, an event will start in the game on June 6th, where you will receive various bonuses. Perfect for anyone who wants to get their current character to level 100 or level up a new one.
