Season 7: Release Date, PTR and Patch Notes
When does Season 7 start? There is currently no date for Season 7. Seasons in Diablo 4 usually last around 3 months. Since Season 6 started on October 8th together with the expansion Vessel of Hatred, Season 7 could be in the starting blocks at the beginning of January. As soon as there is a date, we will update the article.
Is there a PTR for Season 7? In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers announced that there would be a PTR for Season 7. The PTR (public test realm) runs from December 3rd to December 10th, 2024. There you can test all the new content that Blizzard has shown in the live stream from day 1. Unlike usual, seasonal content is also available this time.
Are there patch notes to Season 7? Blizzard will make the patch notes for PTR patch 2.1 available on Wednesday, November 27th. There you can read all the details about the content on the test server. Season 7: Theme and Features
What is the theme of Season 7? Blizzard has not yet announced the theme for Season 7. The theme of Season 6 was also “secret” for a long time, but attentive players have already seen it on the PTR at the time. Since there are supposed to be witch powers in Season 7, the theme could perhaps go in that direction.
What’s in Season 7? In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers reported on the seasonal content and some “Quality of Life” changes in Diablo 4.
Season mechanics: The Witch Powers are basically the mechanic in Season 7. You learn Witchcraft by collecting seasonal reputation by completing corresponding tasks for the “Whispering Tree” and defeating “Headrotten” enemies. You obtain and improve the powers at a coven altar at the “Whispering Tree”.
The witch powers are reminiscent of the witch doctor from Diablo 3 in terms of individual skills. With the Piranhado skill, you summon a “Piranhado” that attracts enemies to you and causes damage. And Vengeful Spirit spawns a minion that draws damage and deals shadow damage.
New seasonal enemies, the “Headrotten”: There are specific bounty tasks for the “Whispering Tree” that relate to the specific enemies, but also boss variants of them. If you kill the bosses, you will receive their head, which you can exchange for the seasonal occult gems. You have a better chance of getting the heads at higher torment levels and with a “whisper potion”. Killing the “Headrotten” also earns you “Restless Rot”.
Occult gemstones: The occult gems are seasonal, socketable items that you can get from the “Whispering Tree”. For this you need, among other things, the heads of the “Headrotten” and gemstone fragments. The gemstones give you additional affixes and supplement the powers of witchcraft. Each occult gem gives you 160 armor and 8% resistance to all types of damage.
items: There will be 8 new Uniques and 3 new Runes (the latter if you own Vessel of Hatred). For this purpose, “bequeathed” items (ancestral items) are revised. When an ancestral item drops, it always drops with an aspect in the best variant. The general drop rate of items will be increased at all torment levels. This is a point of criticism from the community in Season 6, because some variants of ancestral items drop less frequently than the super-rare Mythic Uniques.
New reputation system: In Season 7 there will be a reputation system again, where you will receive items, mats and finally a “Magnificent Spark” for crafting Mythic Uniques. You gain reputation by completing whisper tasks. You unlock new witch powers at special reputation levels.
Class Quest: You can permanently unlock the class quest if you have already completed it with a player character from the class. According to Blizzard, you have to log in once with the character (seasonal characters are also possible) and then unlock them for the entire account. This means you don’t have to go through the quest series again – but you can if you want.
Quality of Life changes: The layout of the Whispering Tree location will be reworked, vendors will be added, and the waypoint will be moved so players can get to the tree more quickly. There will also be “ravens of the tree” on the map where you can give your gifts so that you don’t always have to go to the tree. On top of that, you will receive new reward boxes with “bequeathed” items.
The new reputation system in Season 7.3 new runes in Diablo 4.The “Raven of the Tree” for submitting whispering tasks.
Season 7: Tips and best classes
What do I have to do before the end of Season 6? Since it is not yet clear until when Season 6 will actually run, you still have enough time to do everything there is to do in the season. This includes:
Complete the Battle Pass and collect the rewards if cosmetics are important to you and you like the style of the Battle Pass.
Complete the seasonal journey and collect loot.
Collect achievements if you value such things.
Do seasonal events – like the Realm Shifter – and try out the seasonal items (Opals).
If player titles are important to you, you also have the opportunity to unlock a secret title in Season 6. To do this, however, you have to complete a few tasks:
Which class is the best in Season 7? It is not yet clear which classes and builds in Season 7 will be the best for the endgame. In Season 6, the tier list in Diablo 4 is dominated by the Spiritborn, which came into play with the Vessel of Hatred expansion. Other classes are far behind him, but they all have a few builds that will get you through the endgame well.
However, many of the Spiritborn’s powerful builds are based on bugs that will be fixed in the coming season. In a past livestream, Blizzard explained that they are planning changes to the Spiritborn in Season 7. The developers advise you to enjoy what you have left now.
