Diablo 4 removes a mechanics that players hate since release – makes one of the most important steps in the game easier

With the crafting system “Hardening” you deal with the final game of Diablo 4 at the latest. So far, the process by an annoying mechanics is quite time -consuming – but that is exactly what changes Blizzard with Season 8.

That is “”Hardening ”: With the hardening you add new affixes to your items. In Diablo 4 you will find hardening instructions as drops for several activities. Once you have learned instructions, you can use them at the blacksmith to upgrade your equipment and coordinate them on your build. Uniques are excluded, they have fixed affixes and aspects.

As soon as you have unlocked the hardship, you can basically improve all your Gear with it. If you exchange an item, you have to harden it again – and that’s where it gets tedious. Because you have to select the right instructions every time that contains the desired affix. And there are 3-5 affixes per hardening instructions. That takes time, many clicks and ensures frustration if you get the wrong instructions and wastes an attempt.

What makes Blizzard easier now? From March 11th to March 18th, 2025, the PTR for Season 8 in Diablo 4 – and players discovered a small but fine change: the recently used manual remains stored. This means that you don’t have to select it every time, but can get started right away. So you save yourself a few clicks and valuable time.

Blizzard removes the “annoying part when upgrading”

This is what players say: In a contribution to Reddit, Heartbroken_NERD reports that the recently used manual is stored, which significantly improves the crafting process. Rolling an affix from a hardening instructions is more smooth and faster-a good quality of life change, he believes.

In the comment, Cubicalchicken agrees and calls the change a “very positive improvement”. In his opinion, the constant new selection of the hardening instructions was “definitely the most annoying part when upgrading new items”.

And isolatedgeters jokes: “Yay, we will be able to” brick “items even faster.” In the community, an item is called “bricked” if it does not get the desired affixes when hardening. Some players therefore literally despair of the crafting system.

However, other players notice that the system also has its pitfalls. This is how ApprehneSIVE_TOOM_71 reports: β€œIt is good, unless if [die Anleitung] It remains stored even if you try to change the items. Then you have to leave the hardening tab first […].. ” This makes the change to a different hardening instructions more cumbersome than before.

Thanks to the small change, hardening is now a little more pleasant. Nevertheless, the crafting system remains an issue in the community that is much discussed-especially when players consider their items to be “bricked”. This happens when the hardened items do not improve their build in the end. Blizzard has introduced a feature to save such items, but according to fans, this leads to even more frustration.
