June was an important and promising month in terms of game releases. In particular, titles like Final Fantasy, Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4 were eagerly awaited – the latter pushed everyone else off the throne.
Sony released the top downloads on the PS5 in June 2023 (via PlayStation Blog). A clear winner emerges from the lists in terms of digital downloads in the US and Europe: Diablo 4.
Other top titles follow, but there are quite a few differences between the US and Europe.

Lilith tops the top list
Which games are in the top spots? The game that was downloaded the most on the PS5 in June 2023 is Diablo 4. This was probably partly due to the server slam, which was well received by the players. Although Blizzard wanted to “destroy the servers”, almost everything went smoothly, the fans were enthusiastic across the board.
How successful is Diablo 4? Blizzard didn’t reveal exact sales figures for Diablo 4, but within 5 days they had a turnover of 666 million US dollars (via activisionblizzard.com). After the first week of release, 276 million hours of play were recorded.
The second most downloaded game in Europe is Final Fantasy XVI. A game that was also eagerly awaited by many fans. My MMO demon Cortyn is completely immersed in Final Fantasy XVI for a week and reveals how good the game really is – and who it disappoints:
F1 2023 is ranked 3rd, while Street Fighter 6 is sixth in Europe, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In the US, however, Street Fighter 6 is ranked 3rd.
Bringing up the rear in Europe is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the tenth most downloaded game on the PS5.

Diablo 4 is also the number one most downloaded game on PS4, but only in the US. In Europe, Minecraft is #1 on console, followed by FIFA 2023. Diablo 4 is #3 on PS4 in Europe.
In terms of Free2Play titles, Fortnite is #1 in the US and Europe, on PS5 but also on PS4. Apex Legends and Overwatch occupy the last places in Europe here.
