Diablo 4 is the cheapest game in the series on PC

MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider likes business, but also knows that for many people there is little that is boring – but Diablo 4 is all the more exciting.

Colleague Benedict Grothaus showed me a thread on Reddit entitled: “Comparing starting prices in the Diablo franchise” (via reddit.com).

A user compared the release prices of the four games in the main Diablo series and it turns out that Diablo 4 is actually the cheapest game so far, at least on the US market. It has something to do with inflation.

You can find out here whether this also applies to the German market and how much you would have to shell out for the games today.

Diablo 4 will be released on June 6th. Check out the live-action trailer here:

All old Diablo titles cost more than 70 euros

It wasn’t that easy to find out the original prices of the games in Germany. I did some research online and talked about it with a few colleagues. In the end we agreed on the following values:

  • Diablo 1: $95
  • Diablo 2: 100 DM
  • Diablo 3: 60 euros
  • Diablo 4: 70 euros
  • Inflation is part of our economic cycle. However, the value does not describe the price increase of products, as is often assumed, but the depreciation of the currency.

Every euro is worth a little bit less tomorrow than it is today. So today we need more money to pay the prices from back then.

I don’t want to go in too deep, as I can already hear the first snoring noises from the last row. But simply put, inflation is why things keep getting more expensive and our wages keep going up (should be).

The level of inflation is not always the same. But there are specialized tools that use the “historical inflation” in Germany to calculate how much 95 DM from 1997 would be worth today (via finanz-rechner.com). But I converted the good mark into euros beforehand.

And it also turns out for Germany – the standard version of Diablo 4 is the cheapest of the series so far, if you “adjust the values for inflation”:

  • Diablo 1: 75.12 euros
  • Diablo 2: 76.37 euros
  • Diablo 3: 74.18 euros
  • Diablo 4: 69.99 euros
  • In addition to gaming, business is my passion and I was even allowed to write a topic like this for Call of Duty.

At that time I explained a formula from the economy with which you can calculate the fairness of the meta in CoD Warzone: Do you want to know how fair the meta of CoD Warzone is right now? I’ll explain the formula for you.

To everyone who persevered: Leave me a comment if you have any questions or opinions.
