Diablo 4 is getting a class that has never existed in Diablo and the bosses have already given us some details about it

Associate Game Director Joe Piepiora and Production Director Tiffany Wat were available to MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus to answer questions about Diablo 4. The two of them gave a few clues to what many are currently puzzling about.

At BlizzCon 2023 I was able to speak live with Joe Piepiora and Tiffany Wat, two of the bosses of Diablo 4. Among other things, they talked about class development and the brand new class.

With the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, Diablo 4 will have a playable class that has never been seen in a Diablo game before. In addition, each of the existing 5 classes will receive a revision.

According to a leak, the class will be called “Spiritborn”, but nothing more is known yet. When I asked if I could at least get a hint of the “class fantasy,” Joe Piepiora gave a surprisingly cheerful answer: “No.” Tiffany Wat, on the other hand, was much more open.

“Well, we’re visiting this new region of Nahantu…”

In the production director’s answer, Wat gives a few hints about what the new class might be about. She says:

“Well, we’re visiting the new region of Nahantu – or at least new in Diablo 4. We already know the region from Diablo 2. […] We now know that the residents there call the area Nahantu. As you know from the teaser, this is deep in the jungle, where Kurast is […] This gives us the opportunity to tie the theme of the class, as Joe called it, to the region itself.”

It’s still not entirely clear what the new class will be, but the answer excludes a light class like the Paladin or the Crusader. Something that works with dark magic or voodoo, such as the witch doctor from Diablo 3, is now more likely.

You can read the full interview here on MeinMMO in the coming days.

However, since the class will be completely new, some ideas that would fit into the narrative of both Blizzard games and Diablo as well as a jungle region would be things like:

  • Headhunter
  • Occultist
  • snake charmer
  • shaman
  • or something “foreign” like a missionary or an explorer
  • We won’t find out exactly what you’ll be able to play in Vessel of Hatred until a later date. The information about Diablo 4 was quite sparse at BlizzCon 2023, but the expansion will not appear until the end of 2024. However, we already know more about what will happen next with Season 2:
