Diablo 4: Hardcore player dies 5% before level 100

Many players have set themselves the goal of breaking level 100 in hardcore mode in Diablo 4. Some have already achieved this, others have failed. And one player died just before level 100.

Why is level 100 such a special achievement? Blizzard has announced that it will immortalize the first 1,000 players who reach the level in Hardcore mode on a Lilith statue. The promotion ends in early September or when the 1,000 spots are full.

How did the player die just before level 100? There is a post on Reddit where u/Cerbinol writes: “A friend died at 99 in Hardcore Solo… he was 5% short of level 100.” In the picture he attached you can see the cause of the death :

Killed by: Serpentcaller, which is one of the NPC cultists in the game.

The image also shows that the player was at level 99 and had already invested over 150 hours of gameplay. So not only did he lose his Slayer in hardcore mode, but he also lost an enormous amount of time and effort.

The only thing left to him is the progress in the campaign, so he can skip it on his next character.

Players recognize the tremendous achievement

How is the community reacting? There are now over 1,000 comments under the post in the Diablo 4 subreddit. The most upvoted comment comes from cloudsmiths: “There’s still time to try again if he wants to make the statue list.”

To do this, he attaches a photo showing a statistic that was probably taken from a tweet. This shows the data one week after the release of Diablo 4. At this point, only 163 hardcore players have made it to level 100.

“Experiencing the loss of a hardcore character is a great way to feel like you’re still alive in real life,” Mikimao wrote of the character’s death.

User SizzleFinances writes: “Playing in hardcore mode makes the game feel alive. Every decision counts! My heart rate will increase during boss fights.”

LighthouseHLAKBR writes: β€œAll the time and effort, for nothing. Hats off to HC players, but I never could.” The comment gets over 500 upvotes.

Several users respond that they find the attempt difficult, especially in the first week after release, because so many things could go wrong.
