Diablo 4 Fan Asks, “So, do we hate the Battle Pass now?”

Diablo 4 monetization continues to be a contentious topic in the community. According to the latest information, the paid Battle Pass has exploded again. The fans don’t seem to be in complete agreement on what to make of this.

This is the Battle Pass:

  • Diablo 4 gets quite a few MMO elements unlike most of its predecessors. A Battle Pass is included.
  • The pass offers you the opportunity to earn rewards about every 3 months. There is a free path and a paid path.
  • Now the players are arguing (again) about whether the pass is actually good or not.

Where is the discussion coming from? Blizzard explained the Battle Pass in more detail in a recent stream. The model roughly follows what some of you may already know from Call of Duty:

  • the free path offers 27 levels
  • in the paid path there are 90 steps
  • the cost is 10 US dollars (probably also 10 euros)
  • there will be tier jumps to buy
  • In addition to optional cosmetics, the pass also has a currency, but it is available to everyone – regardless of whether it is paid for or not. The currency can be used to buy boosts that grant more experience points or gold.

Certain levels should have a level requirement, so that the entire pass cannot simply be bought. You get XP for the Battle Pass through all kinds of content in the game such as classic looting and leveling, but also special tasks.

The Battle Pass will certainly become a part of endgame and replayability in the long run. You can see more about the endgame in the video:

In the community, the Battle Pass is always a topic and extremely controversial. A few weeks ago, a user asked why nobody had anything against the system and drew a lot of ridicule.

Now another user asked if “we now hate the Battle Pass” for the new information. Although it still got over 900 upvotes, the thread got almost as many downvotes and a whopping 1,600 comments.

The creator criticizes that the community only celebrated the Battle Pass because only cosmetics should be in it. Now accuse Blizzard of greed. You just can’t please the players.

The top comment directly criticizes the creator:

I was there, in the beginning, when people said the internet would allow us all to be more educated than ever before! Instead we got this…

Other answers are for the most part cynical or even pejorative. Some say they always hated Battle Passes in full price games and they broke games. “FOMO” is a terrible idea anyway.

Is the Battle Pass really that bad? Opinions about the system differ widely. Although the votes for the Battle Pass are rather reserved in this very thread, there are definitely people who have nothing to complain about the monetization.

Someone, on the other hand, objects in a slightly more differentiated way that it would be normal for such a large community to have different views. If everyone had the same opinion, then that was a cause for concern.

The game itself is hardly criticized. In fact, there is so much praise after the last test that even the controversial points get a little love:
