The developers of Helldivers 2 thought you would let children die to get new mines, but you “surprised and delighted” them.
What’s the deal with the children? In June 2024, a new general order presented Helldivers 2 players with a nasty choice: either secure resources to create anti-tank mines or save sick children. They couldn’t save both.
The players decided to save the sick children. The developers of the shooter then donated money to the aid organization “Save the Children” – in response to the community’s heroic decision.
However, some players are now no longer sure whether saving the children was the right decision, because the update on August 6 will include a new tank to reinforce the robots in battle.
Here you can see the trailer for the new update – including the new enemy tank:
Developers thought you were saving the mines instead of the children
What do the developers say? The developers of Helldivers 2 talked about saving the children in a new community update.
The team was surprised by the players’ decision:
In truth, we probably thought players would choose the mines. We’re aware of the jokes that not choosing the mines has generated (like “it’s funnier to keep missing them”), but this seemed like an easy win to grant the community the missing stratagem. Instead, this was one of those truly incredible moments where the community surprised and delighted us.

The developers then thanked the players for the donations they sent to “Save the Children” and made it clear how much they appreciate the loot shooter’s community: “You are truly amazing, Helldivers.”
Even if players chose the children over the mines in June, they could still get the useful equipment now – whether they want it or not: Helldivers 2 now threatens you with equipment that you constantly reject if you don’t kill 1.5 billion enemies in time
