Developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 want you to play these 5 builds – because hardly anyone else does

Multiclassing allows you to combine multiple classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. The feature is aimed more at advanced players. Larian, the makers of the game, have now shown which combinations are the most popular and say: some of the unpopular options are actually really strong. Is that correct?

What are these builds?

  • If you want to become really strong in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have to combine classes. This is the only way you can really get the absolute maximum out of your character.
  • But “multiclassing” is a double-edged sword: you can either become really strong or really weak.
  • In a blog post, Larian has now shown which class combinations are the most popular and which ones could use more love (via Playstation.com).
  • These are the combinations: The developers show that, according to their data, the combination of ranger and rogue is the most popular, closely followed by the fighter-barbarian. Both combinations rely primarily on strong attacks without many frills. However, the following are less popular:

  • Paladin + Warlock
  • Rogue + Monk
  • Cleric + Wizard
  • Druid + Barbarian
  • Wizard + Warlock
  • In terms of their pure stats, the combinations are quite logical, as they usually share at least one important attribute. However, they often have a disadvantage: they are either difficult to play or don’t fit together well in terms of class fantasy. Nevertheless, Larian swears that the builds should be really good.

“Underrated Builds”: Are They Really Good?

Basically we can say: Yes, the builds are actually strong combinations. We even recommend Barbarian and Druid in our best multiclass options for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian himself also gives an assessment of why the respective builds should be really good:

  • Paladin and warlock in the Pact of the Blade: the combination itself is not that terribly strong, especially since it only develops its potential late. The advantage, however, is that you get as many attacks per round as a fighter, but in doing so you deal magical damage, which bypasses many resistances.
  • Rogue and Monk: Monks are in themselves an unpopular class because they are difficult to use. But in combination with a thief-rogue you can deliver up to 12 attacks per round. Perfect if you don’t want anyone else playing besides you.
  • Cleric (Domain of the Storm) and Storm Wizard: this combination is already one of the strongest in the game. You can use it to cause over 2,000 damage per round. Presumably so few people play the build because clerics are generally unpopular.
  • Druid and Barbarian: You are a bear. Who is angry. And beat up opponents. That’s pretty much all about the build. You can take a lot and tear everything apart. Little depth, but very entertaining.
  • Wizards and Warlocks: the idea behind this build is that the wizard’s metamagic allows you to use the warlock’s pact spells more often. Basically the magical version of a barbarian. Bonus: Scary Ray is the most powerful magic trick in the game.
  • Multiclassing is generally less advisable for beginners, but if you’re already planning your second or third playthrough and want to try something new, these builds are great. With Lazarus you can change skills at any time.
