Developer promises that you can win even if your teammates are “idiots”

With Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 on Steam, the developers have a clear stance towards their fellow players and make a promise that will please many players.

What kind of game is this? In Space Marine 2, you fight as Ultramarine Titus and slice your way through huge hordes of monstrous space insects – with powerful bolters and chainsaw swords. The game offers a single player mode as well as a co-op mode for you and two friends and a PvP mode in multiplayer. There are 6 classes at your disposal that you can lead into 6 vs. 6 PvP matches.

As far as the co-op mode is concerned, the developers have now spoken out in an interview with PCGamesN and made a promise.

It all depends on your teammates

What influence do teammates have on the rounds? Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer of Space Marine 2, has developed many co-op games, he says.

“Games that rely too much on people playing together and that [Teamwork] a prerequisite for success sometimes fall apart because people unfortunately do what they want – and I love my gaming friends, but sometimes I want to kill them!” he says in an interview with PCGamesN.

He goes on to explain what makes a co-op game good: “The most successful co-op games are the ones where you can kick ass even if the other players are idiots. Because it’s just frustrating when you have three people doing exactly what they’re supposed to do and one of them is just screwing up – it’s like ‘fuck you.'”

He then goes on to specify what this means for Space Marine 2: “So there is [in Space Marine 2] There are no prerequisites for group combat, but it is definitely an advantage if you team up.” For him, it is important that players have fun in the game even without good teammates and can even win missions on their own with a little extra baggage.

According to the first tests, the co-op missions are not just meant to be a mere shooting game, but also to offer more tactical depth. In addition, the individual classes are meant to be clearly differentiated from each other and especially from the “Swiss Army knife” Titus.

What experiences from current games are important for Space Marine 2? The developer has taken a look at Helldivers 2 and is positive about the game. “I have Helldivers [2] played like crazy, and it legitimizes what we do, and it shows that these kinds of games can be very successful because people are social and want to play together,” he says in an interview.

Space Marine 2 will be released on Steam on September 9th. The release will show whether the developer can keep its promise and whether the game really works well with “idiots”.
