Last week, Säpo struck against an 18-year-old man in the Stockholm area. The man was arrested on Tuesday morning and a house search was also conducted. A few days later, he was arrested, suspected of participating in the terrorist organization, preparation for terrorist crimes, attempted murder and preparation for violations of the Flammable and Explosive Goods Act.
Säpo states that the case is linked to violent Islamist extremism.
The prosecutor believed that there was an obvious risk that an attack would be implemented if he had not been arrested by Säpo. At the same time, he stated that they had full control of the event development.
– If we had not had it, then my absolute view was there would have been an obvious risk of an attack in Sweden, says prosecutor Henrik Olin.
The crime scene: Eppstein outside Frankfurt
According to the arrest request, all crimes must have been committed in Sweden – except for the attempted murder. When the 18-year-old was arrested, the crime was not described by time or place.
A few days after the arrest in Stockholm, Säpo made a new effort, then in the Malmö area. A 17-year-old boy was arrested, even suspected of the attempted murder. When he was arrested, it emerged and when the suspected crime must have taken place – August 14 in the German city of Eppstein, with just under 14,000 inhabitants.
“There is nothing more to say at the moment other than that they are both suspected of attempted murder. However, what is possible to say now is that this suspicion applies to an event in Germany in August 2024, ”writes Chamber Prosecutor Henrik Olin in an email.
Not been reported in Germany
In the national and local media in Germany, nothing was published about any attempted murder in Eppstein, located just outside Frankfurt in Hessen. TV4 News has also been in contact with a local journalist in Eppstein, who also had no knowledge that a murder attempt should have been committed there in August.
The German Security Service BundesnachrichTendienst does not want to confirm that the incident is known.
“As a matter of principle, the BundesnachrichTendienst never comments on public matters relating to potential intelligence information or activities. This does not mean any position on the accuracy of the data, ”writes the security service in an email to TV4 News.
German authorities: know the case
However, the Prosecutor’s Office in Frankfurt states that they know the case, even if they are few words and do not want to comment on the case.
– The matter you describe is known to us. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any information in this case because of investigative reasons, says Dominik Mies, press officer at the Prosecutor’s Office in Frankfurt am Main.
Nor does Säpo want to go into details, but refers to preliminary investigation confidentiality.
