Already in October, the Riksdag’s international advisor writes to the NATO negotiators that the Speaker is prepared to go to the capital Ankara “if and when it could contribute in a positive way to the bilateral relationship”.
And according to several emails obtained by DN, the conversation continued in the same direction during late autumn. On November 28, Sweden’s chief negotiator in the NATO process, Oscar Stenström, gives a written encouragement to a visit by the Speaker and writes further that he recommends “proactive action”.
“A trip is planned”
When a possible trip to Turkey will take place is not clear from the emails, and Andreas Norlén’s press secretary Pernilla Eldblom says that the speaker cannot make a comment at the moment.
– I only know that a trip is planned. That’s all I can say. As far as I know, no dates have been set, she tells DN.
