The man has previously been internationally wanted, and has been in Turkey. Now he has been murdered, according to information to SVT. The murder is said to have taken place in Istanbul on Monday.
The man has had a tone-setting role within the Swedish gang milieu, and has been a prioritized person to arrest for the Swedish police, according to SVT’s information.
At the end of 2023, the man was requested to be detained in absentia for particularly serious drug smuggling in nine cases. In 2015, the man was sentenced to a year in prison for serious weapons offences, but the penalty was time-barred in 2022 because the sentence could not be enforced within five years of its becoming legally binding.
Turkish media: Swede arrested
On Monday, a Swedish wanted man was also arrested in the tourist resort of Bodrum, according to SVT, which Turkish media have also reported on. It is unclear if the events are related. The man has previously been convicted in Sweden for, among other things, drug offences.
During Tuesday, Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) has a planned visit to Ankara together with Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), for the first meeting on the security cooperation that Sweden and Turkey agreed on during the NATO negotiations. Among other things, they will discuss organized crime and terrorism.
