The Russian drone attack is said to have been primarily aimed at Ukraine’s most important sea contact with the outside world, the Danube ports of Reni and Zmail in southernmost Odessa Oblast.
It should have been the Iranian drone type “Shahed-136/131”, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Two civilians are said to have been injured in the attacks during Sunday morning.
In July, Russia withdrew from an agreement negotiated by Turkey with the UN for the export of grain. Since then, Russia has continuously carried out attacks specifically targeting Ukrainian grain warehouses. In late August, Ukraine stated that 270,000 tons of grain had been destroyed in the attacks in one month.
Two ships through grain corridor
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in late August that there are no alternative routes other than those of the original grain deal with Ukraine and Russia. Despite that, a couple of weeks ago the ship Joseph Schulte passed through a temporary corridor, according to Ukraine. And now two more have succeeded, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Another two ships have successfully passed through our temporary grain corridor in the Black Sea,” Zelenskyy writes on Xformerly Twitter.
He does not specify where the ships were going or what cargo they were carrying.
“I thank all the port workers and everyone who ensures that the security of the corridor works. We call on our allies to support our efforts by contributing more air defense systems,” writes Zelenskyy.
