Three weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine, President Putin made contact with Chechen leader Kadyrov. The mission was to assassinate Ukrainian President Zelensky. The data comes from the American newspaper Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper refers to sources within the Ukrainian intelligence service.

Ramzan Kadyrov is the leader of the Russian sub-republic of Chechnya and one of Putin’s most loyal allies.

The hardline Kadyrov has sent thousands of Chechen soldiers to fight alongside Putin’s forces in Ukraine.

But once the invasion started, the Chechen forces met stiff resistance and had to shelve the plans. The Kremlin spokesman denies the Wall Street Journal’s information.
