Details: Northvolt in “close talks” with Chinese battery maker

According to DN’s sources, the company has been in talks since last summer mainly with the battery giant Catl, which already has almost 40 percent of the world market for electric car batteries. Representatives of the companies must have met, among other things, in Ningde in China, where Catl is based.

– We cannot risk the green transition in Europe becoming a Chinese transition, said Minister of Economic Affairs Ebba Busch (KD) earlier to SVT.

She wants the EU to support battery manufacturing in Europe financially so as not to become dependent on China.

The Swedish Energy Agency’s expert in the battery industry, Greger Ledung, does not think that a collaboration with Catl would be unreasonable.

– Having production in Sweden through a joint venture with a Chinese actor is light years better than being at the mercy of Chinese imports if you want to talk about dependence, he says to DN.
