The Hunt for the Ghjallarhorn

The Gjallarhorn

The Gjallarhorn is probably the most well-known Exo weapon from the loot shooter. The rocket launcher not only represents power, it is a status symbol for those who defeat gods. While in Destiny 2 anyone can get the rocket launcher, in Destiny 1 it was purely a matter of luck.

Either you bought it from Xur or you got lucky with the Cryptarch. Either way, finding this weapon was like winning the lottery at the time and whoever owned the horn was allowed to join the other players in raids and kill Crota.

Without this part, most players were turned away and not allowed to join. It was an unfair time, but back then the loot shooter was still in its self-discovery phase and only the people who loved the game from the beginning remained loyal to Destiny.

The first raid

Futuristic boss with chic design: Atheon

On September 16, 2014, a dark power spread across Venus. The Vex and their leader “Atheon” attempted to use the Vault of Glass to change time. Bungie’s first 6-player activity that required communication and coordination saw the light of day.

In addition to cool armor to match the Vex, there were also powerful weapons, including the first raid Exo of all time: the Vex Mythoclast. The fusion rifle with its unique fire mode terrorized the Crucible at the time and pulverized normal enemies with single shots.

The raid wasn’t difficult, but if you had to remember one thing that stuck in your mind, it would be those nasty Gorgons that could grab you out of nowhere.
