Destiny 2 takes everything players have earned and brings it back in chunks

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Bungie has been developing Destiny for 8 years now: Destiny 2 was actually supposed to be a blatant break, the players lost all items from the first 3 years. But what armor is new to Destiny in December 2022? The old Iron Banner sets from 2015. Bungie comments with a wink. The fans like it now.

This was the idea behind Destiny 2: After 3 years with Destiny 1, Bungie wanted a clean cut. The story was: In a large-scale attack by space turtles, players lose everything they had earned up to that point.

All the awesome exotic weapons, the cosmetic items that were bought for real money in the shop, the meticulously assembled armor sets—all went up in smoke when the cabal attacked. That’s how the story wanted it, that’s how the Bungie grandees wanted it.

Players should start from 0, develop a real hatred of the opponents. The promise also resonated: All the great items that you have collected over the last 3 years are gone – but there is now room for a lot of new things.

Destiny: Delayed Mess – How Bungie Wrecked Destiny 1

The background to the decision was apparently that Bungie itself wanted to start with a “tabula rasa”.

You didn’t want to lug around a thousand legacies, with every new boss design considering that there was something like a rocket launcher that was way too powerful and its shot split into mini rockets, or a sniper rifle that got its own ammunition. This would also make it easier for the developers to create new great items.

How is it in reality? It didn’t go so well. Bungie has lost some funds over the years, there are no longer as many auxiliary studios and probably not as many employees as from 2014 to 2017.

In addition, Bungie realizes that many players are still attached to their memories from the past and Bungie itself probably burned some of its best ideas in the first few years.

In addition, the expectations of the players for new content kept increasing: it never stopped, every 3 months players in Destiny 2 want new items as a reward for being so diligent.

Over the years, more and more equipment, weapons, concepts and even entire raids came back to Destiny 2. The advantages are obvious:

  • The work of creating the assets has already been done
  • People have good memories of the items or activities and feel nostalgic about them
  • You need a lot of “raw content” for Destiny, new armor, weapons and rewards with each season
  • Destiny 2: DLC II only has one really new Strike – it’s PS4 exclusive

Armor sets from 2015 are the new highlight for 2022

This is new now: With Season 19, the Iron Banner armor rewards that already existed in 2015 at the time of “The Taken King” will be relaunched.

Above all, the Hunter set from back then, with the wolf’s head, is iconic: toys were even made to go with the armor.

    Bungie now sounds almost self-ironic:

It’s been about a year since we last refreshed the armor in Iron Banner. We’ve seen some wonderful ideas over the years. Inspiration from days gone by focuses on the looks of a true warrior. This year we’re bringing back one of our fan favorite sets, from an Age of the Taken King.

We expect them to be a “fun addition” to many sets in the game and look forward to your fashion statement in next season’s Iron Banner.

In the same breath, the weapon “Rose” is brought back, which is about three and a half years old.

The sharpness from recycling is now gone – many accept it that way

How do the fans take that? You can now see this almost as a tongue-in-cheek from Bungie. Apparently there were some comments on Destiny on Reddit that Destiny 1’s armor was better than Destiny 2’s. Now Bungie is just bringing it back, taking the wind out of the sails of the criticism

Somehow people have come to terms with the fact that Bungie is bringing back so much from previous years.

At the beginning of Destiny 2, this was viewed much more critically. People said they paid 60€ for Bungie to take their old stuff and now Bungie would sell them their old stuff back piecemeal with new DLCs for lots of money again:

  • It was demanded that Bungie should kindly come up with new things. Bungie was called the “master of recycling” and people felt cheated of their money
  • 2022 sounds more like “nostalgia” and “the fan favorites from days gone by are back” – Bungie has managed to make it sound like listening to the players and giving them what they sorely lack
  • Many critics who are bothered by this policy of recycling should have already finished with Destiny.
