Bungie has announced that it will be radically reworking the Titan class in the online shooter Destiny 2. This will happen with the episode “Destiny 2: Revenant,” which starts on October 8. The Titans will be given abilities like tanks in MMORPGs. They can draw the attention of the enemies to themselves.
This is the idea behind the revision of the Titan:
Since February 2023, there has been a discussion about the Titan in Destiny 2. The criticism is that the Titan plays too uniformly in all specializations.
Bungie said the Titan’s “core power fantasy” is using his fists. The cover of the game shows that. The Titan’s core identity is punching and fighting with his fists in a world of blasters and rocket launchers (via gamesradar).
However, this core identity seems to be too little for many players. The class comes across as “too simple” and has to go into close combat and hit things.
Titans in Destiny are becoming more diverse and can better protect fellow players
This is what Bungie says now: In a blog post on September 19, Bungie explained that Titans deserve more than just “being the sum of their clenched fists” and need their own class identity, so they’re giving Titans deeper gameplay and more uses.
Bungie says they don’t want to take anything away from the Titan, they just want to add more. But that will take time.
It will soon be possible for Titans to draw the “aggro” of their opponents with the “barricade” ability in order to protect their fellow players. In MMORPG terms: The Titan will get the “taunt” ability, which players will know from MMORPGs.
The changes look like this:
In addition to all the gimmicks, there is also a very simple buff. The Titan’s normal attacks do 5% more damage in PvP and 20% more in PvE. The stun effect should also occur more often. Ultimately, a Titan is a fist fighter after all.
You can read the exact improvements, including to the Prism Titan, here at Bungie. The full patch notes are due to appear on October 8th when the Revenant episode goes live.
How is this discussed? In fact, the discussion about the Titan on Reddit is somewhat lost. The big topic on Reddit is the return of a mechanic that affects all players. This is viewed rather critically: Destiny 2 brings back the endgame goal that you will strive for in vain
