You don’t want to step on people who are already down, but Bungie doesn’t make it easy. On Wednesday, August 14, Bungie admitted the next serious mistake in Destiny 2: This time there are problems with the moderation tool that is supposed to ensure decent names.
This is what Bungie says about the new bug: At 2:30 p.m. Bungie reported (via x)
The problem, however, is apparently that people currently cannot return to their “original name,” which is marked as inappropriate.
Bungie makes another mistake
What’s going on there? The problem occurred with the last update to Destiny 2, which was supposed to fix some annoying bugs on August 13th.
After the update was rolled out, players complained on Reddit and the Bungie forum that the “Bungie Name” they had had for years had been changed without any warning.
Players simply received a message saying that a new Bungie name had been assigned to the account.
Among the people complaining is Rick Kackis, one of the biggest content creators for the game.
In an initial reaction, Bungie itself seemed confused as to what exactly happened, but apparently they have now realized that the error is theirs and will hopefully present a solution tomorrow.
Why does this annoy people? For many online gamers, their name in games is synonymous with their identity and they associate many memories and emotions with it. Therefore, this seemingly small thing is something that is annoying.
In addition, it fits into an unfortunate narrative about Destiny 2 that the game, after the poor sales figures of The Final Shape and a wave of layoffs, is entering a phase in which there is no longer enough money for staff to ensure solid quality assurance: Destiny 2: New update does the exact opposite of what it is supposed to do – fewer exotics, instead of more
