“Destiny 2 is unplayable!” – Fans are angry because Bungie has to disable the API again due to bugs

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Destiny 2 is currently plagued by some problems. Players have been reporting crashes and disconnections since the beginning of December. Therefore, Bungie decided to take a radical step and shut down the Destiny API again to work on a solution.

What problems does Destiny 2 have? In early December, Destiny 2 had API issues that caused many players to lose their connection and limited access to many helpful third-party apps. The bugs also caused multiple in-game errors and crashes. Bungie stepped in and was able to fix the problems. However, the solution appeared to be short-lived.

Because as soon as the API was online again, the problems started creeping back up. The errors in the game therefore seem more serious than initially assumed.

How is Bungie reacting? In order to fix the problems, Bungie has now decided to take the radical step again and switched the API offline again. This gives the developers the opportunity to work intensively on the bugs and try out different approaches. While there is no exact timeline for when the API will be available again, the Bungie team tweeted next week as a possible timeline.

However, this also means that many important features and Quality of Life applications for Destiny 2 will be unavailable during maintenance. Although this is the only logical step to fix the recurring errors, the community is upset.

Many players have the holidays off and want to gamble in peace, so you don’t want to deal with crashes and disconnects and some fans are really angry.

Unfortunately, some fans sometimes go overboard with their criticism. A community manager leaves Bungie after facing personal hostilities in 2022.

Problems over Christmas cause frustration in the community

Is Destiny currently unplayable? No, Don `t worry. You can start Destiny 2 normally while the developers work on a solution. A Centipede error message can appear on startup, but this can usually be resolved by restarting the game. However, many features that make gameplay easier for you are currently limited or simply not available at all.

The API (Application Programming Interface) is a programming interface that, in the case of Destiny 2, allows third parties to program inventory or equipment managers, for example. Bungie’s own website, which some players use to find groups, is also affected.

What are the players saying? The loss of item managers such as DIM (Destiny Item Manager) or Ishtar Commander, both third-party software, is likely to annoy the community. With these tools, players can easily transfer items from one of their avatars to another, which is no longer possible. A big loss of comfort for many players that gets on their nerves.

Without the API, they now have to log in individually with each of their characters and first transfer the items to the vault. Access to saved builds, which you could easily equip with a click, no longer works either. This now costs a lot more effort and is annoying, especially if you only have limited time to play or other Guardians are waiting for you.

This is what the new in-game build system will look like – Planned release is with the “Lightfall” DLC

However, a partial solution for the dependency on third-party apps is said to come with the new DLC “Lightfall” in February 2023. Then Bungie wants to integrate its own build system. Players are now also demanding an independent item manager. On the other hand, there are also players who are currently encouraging the developers and saying that the negative feedback should be ignored.
