In Destiny 2, Guardians struggle with quests, bugs, and most importantly, the ever-dwindling challenge of difficulty. It’s good that Lightfall is just around the corner, because Bungie could minimize exactly this noted lightness with upcoming changes.
What is a big problem in Destiny 2? The gripping loot shooter from Bungie Manufacture not only has to deal with cheaters, frequent content drought and bugs, but also with the ever-dwindling challenge.
While newcomers are already having their difficulties in PvE content, professionals and veterans can only laugh wearily at the current state. Many of the difficult activities are done on the fly and don’t require much effort at this time as Bungie wants to make them accessible to all players.
The result: all activities feel too easy and therefore offer no challenge – players get bored more quickly and lose interest in the grind.
While everyone is waiting for Lightfall and the changes to come, PCGamer asked the developers in Washington some questions about adjustments and they could make the loot shooter more exciting again.
An important character stat will be nerfed
What will change with Lightfall? In an interview between news site PCGamer and Bungie, some questions were asked about Destiny 2. It was mainly about upcoming changes like changing the mods and the upcoming loadout places for your builds.
However, a previously unknown topic was also addressed and that is resilience in Destiny 2. A value that makes many Guardians strong Rambos, as they can take more damage, the higher the value.
So the question from PCGamer was, “Will Resilience’s damage resistance scale work the same as it does in Lightfall?”. Bungie responded as follows:
We adjusted the curve a bit. On the high end, level 10 resilience offers = 30% damage reduction against fighters (up from 40% in live play now), but we’ve also made progression smoother so you can draw more points from resilience at lower levels without the compulsion have the character rating to level up to full level.
So you will be able to get less resilience and take more damage when Lightfall is released.
In addition, the mods that give you stat bonuses will be adjusted. These will require over 3 energy to socket into your armor, and even so they will have fixed slots where you can use them.
This includes Stacking being usable only in leg armor, while Mighty Friends and Radiant Light will find their place in the Headgear socket. (via bungie.com)
Basically, Lightfall will offer more options when it comes to build crafting, but Guardians will have to decide where their priorities lie and how to use the restrictions to create a solid build.
Bungie could slowly increase the difficulty in the game. Not from stronger enemies, but from weaker Guardians.
Are the changes enough? With a maximum resilience and the resulting 30% damage adjustment, the Guardians become more vulnerable and force them to act more cautiously in the game. Despite that, that’s not enough to offer more challenge in the loot shooter.
Also, often in Destiny 2, 20% damage control is enough to give Guardians enough protection to handle endgame content. So it remains to be seen what else Bungie will do to get the Guardians sweating again.
