Destiny 2 is giving up DLCs soon to avoid player burnout

Destiny 2 went all out again when they revealed things about the future of the loot shooter in their latest reveal for The Final Form. However, one of the most important points was what should happen after the “last” DLC and that might please you.

How does Destiny 2 work? If you are interested in Destiny 2 and always want to play the latest content, you must purchase a large DLC and four seasons every year. The biggest events of the story take place in the DLC, while the Seasons should entertain the players until the next DLC – narratively, so also gameplay-wise.

Bungie has been using this system since 2019 with the release of the DLC “Fortress of Shadows”. Now that the upcoming DLC ”The Final Form” has been revealed, there will soon no longer be any new DLCs, each with four seasons, but a new system – the episodes.

In 2024 there will be no DLCs, but episodes

What did Bungie reveal? The development studio behind Destiny 2 has now developed a new and more appropriate concept for the continuation of the loot shooter. DLCs should no longer be an issue in the final form. Instead, you will have episodes that will tie into what happened after the first major saga.

Three episodes are already known that you can expect until 2026:

  • Act 1: Echoes, March – June 2024
  • Act 2: Revenants, July – October 2024
  • Act 3: Heresy, November 2024 – February 2025
  • What can I expect in an episode? We can only glean what to expect from Bungie’s promo material so far. Things include:

  • New quests
  • A new artifact
  • New Weapons
  • New activities
  • A possible season pass
  • New armor
  • Bungie is also talking about a larger amount of content that players get when they play an episode. In addition, any fan, no matter how deep in the story, can participate in the episodes.

The crucial question, however, is how the whole thing is divided, because each episode is divided into three acts. Each act lasts 6 weeks and also has the same content definition symbols as act 1 of the respective episode.

Bungie has packaged the new content like the previous seasons. So if you buy the annual pass, it includes, among other things, the campaign for “The Final Form” and all three episodes.
