Since the layoffs at the end of October, Destiny 2 fans have been unsure whether the upcoming expansion, “The Final Form,” will release in February 2024 as planned. A recent press release has now confirmed the known date again, which gave many hopes. But Jason Schreier sticks to his prediction and laughs at the Guardians’ hope.
A notice: We updated this article on November 16th with new information that Bungie had made another change.
This is what the Guardians’ hope is based on: Since the quake at Bungie and an insider report from Jason Schreier, the Guardians have been preparing for the upcoming DLC “The Final Form” to be postponed.
However, Bungie has not confirmed this after 2 weeks and so it is still just a rumor and not official.
Many players are now hoping that Bungie will stick to the original plan for the upcoming DLC. But Jason Schreier, who has the insider information in question and also made the alleged postponement public, can only laugh about it.
In the news from Bungie there was also a small teaser for the upcoming season 23, which will revolve around the biggest secret from Forsaken.
“Don’t get your hopes up”
Who should we believe? That’s what many Destiny 2 players are asking themselves at the moment. Should you believe the official press release from the developer or the statements of a well-known and extremely reliable insider named Jason Schreier?
How reliable is Jason Schreier?
Jason Schreier is considered a highly reliable source when it comes to video game reporting. He has worked for renowned media companies such as Kotaku and currently for Bloomberg and is known for his well-researched articles. In the past, Schreier has often published insider information and background stories that later turned out to be correct.
Bungie contradicted Jason Schreier’s claim in an official press release for the new Season 23 on November 14th by repeating the well-known start date of “The Final Form”.
The press release, which was published via bungie.net, states:
The Season of Wish is the last season for Destiny 2 before the expansion “The Final Form” with new episodes is released on February 27, 2024. “The Final Form” is the monumental conclusion to the saga of light and darkness, in which the Guardians meet the Witness.
the developer announced on his website
This contradicts the Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, who claimed there is a delay until June 2024 after interviews with former Bungie employees who were laid off.
Destiny 2’s most important DLC has been postponed for a few months, probably due to layoffs
Some Guardians believe that this information about the upcoming DLC should not have been mentioned so explicitly in the announcement if a postponement was actually planned. They also confronted Jason Schreier about this.
Jason Schreier is still sure: The shift is coming and you shouldn’t get your hopes up too high. He commented on DestinyTracker’s tweet with Bungie’s statement saying:
I’m going to rate this post an L for LoL, it will get out of date quickly
was Jason Schreier’s response to Bungie’s press release
Update from November 16th: The DestinyBulletin Twitter account posted a screenshot showing a minimal change on Bungie’s website. Despite everything, this could indicate that the developer may already be preparing the postponement but it is not yet ready for a decision.
The addition “Data and content may change” was added to the end of the information website for “The Final Form”. This could not yet be found on Bungie’s website for the upcoming DLC in September 2023.
This is the Guardians’ wish: It should be remembered that no source is 100% error-free. Therefore, it is always advisable to check information from various external sources to get a more complete picture.
However, the discussion within the Destiny 2 community clearly shows that Guardians want clarity and reliability. Preferably from Bungie itself and as quickly as possible.
Many players are now even advocating a postponement of The Final Form because they want Destiny 2 to be good. As Guardian Michael DiVentura says: “I prefer to postpone it because I don’t want it to go bad.”
What are your thoughts on the recent developments surrounding Destiny 2 and the uncertainty surrounding The Final Form release date? Do you want the DLC to be delayed due to possible problems, or are you optimistic that everything will go as planned?
